Lumber Dimensions

Lumber is commonly sold using nominal sizes, which refer to the board’s rough-sawn dimensions before it is dried and finished at the mill. After the lumber is kiln-dried and planed, the final product is slightly smaller—these are known as the actual dimensions. For projects that require precise measurements, be sure to review the size chart below before purchasing.
